Conquering clutter: kiddie artwork (Part II)

November 21st, 2009 by Zee

In May, I posted a CC entry on displaying and storing kiddie artwork. At the time, storing away our 2-year-old's drawings wasn't really an issue because she didn't have too many. But now, just six months later, we could probably devote an entire wing of the Louvre to her masterpieces. The little one seems to have found her inner Da Vinci and has been creating artwork like crazy.

Our poor refrigerator was suffocating and we were running out of magnets. So it was time to find a storage solution for the pieces that have been on display for several months. Here's what we're doing:

I decided to use an old shoe box.

Since it's a little bigger and deeper than a typical shoe box (it was a box for boots), I think it'll easily store several years' worth of our daughter's work.

What about you? What are your storage solutions for your kiddie's best drawings and paintings? Do you have tips or tricks to share?

Rosette: I've already thrown out half of my daughter's drawings. I'm trying to be very, very, very selective, keeping in mind how limited our storage space is for her artwork. Andreas, on the other hand, has a hard time letting go of a lot of her pictures. He rather I be in charge of deciding what stays and what goes. Works for me. :)

Hey Z...My oldest is 8 yrs old and I kept he's artwork and school work since preschool. They are still stored in bins. I'm a scrapbook person. So I need to go over it and would want some to go into a scrapbook. I recently learned from someone that they started scanning their children's work and put it into digital scrapbook. And those that are bigger to put into my scrapbook, I take a picture of it. It is a great idea! The only problem is that I don't have the time to do my scrapbook projects. So for now its stored in bins or saved onto my external hard drive.

Well, the Rose speaks from the Frozen North!!

Let me tell you this, Small Red Flower, my mom took my crappy comic book collection of original Disneys and others, and my crappy baseball card collection with Mickey Mantle's rookie card--both of which would undoubtedly fetch up to $20K (which would have funded my entire college education) and threw them into the garbage can!!

What do I say to mothers who do that to their sons? And my own mother from whose womb I sprung!! "Crap! Crap! And DOUBLE Crap!!" I say!!!

  10. Zee:

Jovy D.: Hey girl! Welcome to The A-Z Files. I love the digital scrapbook idea. That's probably a lot more quicker and easier than making one from scratch. If only mommies could devote an extra hour or two each day to scrapbooking ... :)

    Richard: :)

  11. Richard:

Thanks, Z. But I know that was a crappy post.

  12. Zee:

    Richard: Are you done? ;)
